Scottish District Cross Country Championships

The men's District Cross Country Championship was first held in the East in 1898-9, the West in 1894-5 and the North in 1952-3. From 1929-30 until 1974-5 the West of Scotland was split into 2 Districts - South-West and Midland. The 1975-6 they were put together again to form the West District of today.

Between and including seasons 1899-2000 and 1948-9, the men's District Championships were contested by Junior athletes defined as not having won honours in the District individual or team championships.

"In 1964-5 a Junior age group was introduced in the District championship with up to 1982-3 being the first junior in the senior championship. In 1983-4 it became a separate race again for both genders before separating agin in 2012-3.

From 1993-94 with joint male and female champs and a long timetable to do the junior men went back in with the senior men.

In 1992, with the formation of the Scottish Athletics Federation, the men's and women's were combined in the East and West by season 1993-4.

A short announcement in the 4th December 1971 issue Athletics Weekly on page 32 reported "Women's District Championship. For the first time, the SWCCC will hold District Championships on December 4th: Western at Pollock Estate and Eastern at Pitreavie.".

The Master's championships were integrated into the Senior races in season 1995-6.
